PECAN PASTRY BRAID WITH VANILLA ICING

Ingredients:

For the Pastry:

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

½ cup finely chopped pecans

⅓ cup brown sugar

2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

1 tsp ground cinnamon

For the Vanilla Icing:

½ cup powdered sugar

1-2 tbsp milk

½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Filling:

In a small bowl, mix chopped pecans, brown sugar, melted butter, and cinnamon until well combined.

2. Prepare the Puff Pastry:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle.

Place the pecan mixture in the center third of the pastry, spreading it evenly, leaving about 1-inch borders.

3. Create the Braid:

Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut diagonal slits about 1 inch apart on both sides of the filling.

Starting at one end, fold the strips over the filling, alternating sides to create a braided pattern.

Tuck the ends under to seal.

4. Bake:

Carefully transfer the braid to the prepared baking sheet.

Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.

5. Make the Vanilla Icing:

In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk (start with 1 tbsp and add more for desired consistency), and vanilla extract until smooth.

6. Add the Finishing Touch:

Drizzle the vanilla icing over the slightly cooled pastry braid.

Optionally, sprinkle with additional chopped pecans for garnish. See less
